“Just living is not enough… one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” – Hans Christian Andersen
A big part of what I aim to teach is how to release and let go of the mental and emotional baggage that keeps us stuck in mediocre lives and from fulfilling our dreams. I have learned over the years that different things work for different people at different times. So I want to share with you over the next few weeks several amazing techniques that have worked for countless others and that just might benefit you in doing the release work necessary to move you beyond your negative and unconscious thinking that blocks your flow and prevents you from cultivating a life you truly love and deserve.
The first technique or release method I want to share is the use of Flower Essences.
In The Alchemy of the Desert, Cynthia Athina Kemp Scherer explains a flower essence as “the vibrational imprint of a flower that has been transferred and stabilized in water. Flower essences can help us recognize, resolve, or release different conditioned ways of perceiving the world and can help us experience greater well-being and harmony in our lives.”
She tells us that, “Flower essences are very effective in helping us to recognize and rid ourselves of limiting or destructive patterns of behavior. The essences support us in extending our consciousness beyond its present state. They provide a language that helps us to understand our emotions and inner soul urgings.”
Simply put, flower essences are a great remedy for releasing ourselves from the burden of our unconsciousness.
In fact I have come to understand and appreciate flower essences as a subtle yet powerful tool for healing and transformation, for letting go of your old way of being for a new way of being that reflects your more conscious self.
Let’s look at what others have to say about Flower Power:
Rudolph Ballentin in the Foreword of The Art & Technique of Using Flower Essences, tells us that, “Flower essences are beginning to emerge as the logical and inevitable medium for this crescendo of healing activity. Inevitable because the flowers surround us, embodying graphically and energetically the shades of consciousness that we experience internally, beckoning us to enter and pass through them on our accelerated flight toward wholeness.”
Cythnia Athina Kemp Scherer the author, says that “nature is an anchor point that helps us connect with our inner stillness and hopefully with our own inner truth.” She goes on to say that…“Using flower essences is a way to consciously connect with the healing and supportive power of nature. It is a way to assist our healing journey and cultivate an inner support system as we evolve in consciousness. Nature can also help us to understand our own inner nature. Different plants can give us a way to understand what we are feeling and connect more fully with our spiritual selves.”
Eckhart Tolle names Chapter One in A New Earth, The Flowering of Human Consciousness and has this to say about Evocation (meaning to bring or recall to the conscious mind; to invoke a spirit):
“Earth, 114 million years ago, one morning just after sunrise: The first flower ever to appear on the planet…flowers must have remained rare and isolated phenomena, since conditions were most likely not yet favorable for a widespread flowering to occur. One day, however, the critical threshold was reached, and suddenly there would have been an explosion of color and scent all over the planet…
Much later, those delicate and fragrant beings we call flowers would come to play an essential part in the evolution of consciousness of another species. Humans would increasingly be drawn to and fascinated by them. As the consciousness of human beings developed, flowers were most likely the first thing they came to value that had no utilitarian purpose for them…They provided inspiration…Jesus tells us to contemplate the flowers and learn from them how to live…
Seeing beauty in a flower could awaken humans, however briefly, to the beauty that is an essential part of their own innermost being, their true nature. The first recognition of beauty was one of the most significant events in the evolution of human consciousness. The feelings of joy and love are intrinsically connected to that recognition. Without our fully realizing it, flowers would become for us an expression in form of that which is most high, most sacred, and ultimately formless within ourselves. Flowers…would become like messengers from another realm, like a bridge between the world of physical forms and the formless…”
This is the power of Flowers. And the good news is that they carry an energetic essence we can all tap into through the practice of Flower Essence Therapy, which is a simple, safe, inexpensive, empowering and transformative method for healing and releasing what needs to be healed and released.
There are a lot of different lines of flower essences and so you just have to do some research to find one that resonates with you. Each flower essence in a line is formulated to address a specific issue in your life and bring harmony to that issue.
If you shop at Whole Foods or a natural health store, you may have noticed Bach Rescue Remedy at the checkout line. This is the most known flower essence from the Bach Flower Essence line and is used to help you relax and focus particularly in stressful situations. I mention this just to point out that flower essences do have some commercial and mainstream status though they’re still a fairly unknown and untapped healing remedy in general.
I personally use the Desert Alchemy line of Flower Essences. After reading The Art & Technique of Using Flower Essences by Scherer who formulates the Desert Alchemy line and doing some research on other lines it just felt right for me to try Desert Alchemy.
Shortly after starting my first cycle of flower essences I noticed a subtle shift within taking place. And I continue to benefit from the power of flower essence as I deepen my practice. I personally can say that they have had a positive and transforming affect on me and I believe that you too can experience profound changes in your life if you decide to understand and use flower essences in your own release work.

One final point to note is that the shift from flower essences is subtle in such a way that you may not immediately be able to pin point and articulate exactly what is shifting for you but you will just have an awareness that something is happening and then one day you will realize the profound shifts that have taken place in your life since you started using flower essences.
