“Some are born brilliant, some have brilliance thrust upon them — and others cower in the dark crying, “It burns! It burns!” ― K.A. Laity
I know that I am powerful, smart, and capable of success but I have to admit there are days when I get scare and start to doubt myself. It is easy to lose one’s confidence especially when you’ve been a stay-at-home mom and out of the work force for nearly a decade. And now that I’m embarking on a new adventure I’ve had to muster up the courage to put myself out there and show up to share my message. It’s especially tough when I compare myself to women who are brilliantly and successfully doing their thing and seem to be unstoppable. I wonder how the hell are they doing it all and why the hell it takes everything I’ve got to just get out of bed on time, get the kids ready and off to school, and figure out what’s for dinner some days. Can I get an Amen if you can relate?!
But that is a big mistake many of us make – comparing ourselves to others. Your life is unique. Your circumstances are unique. And you are just as brilliant as anyone else and just as unstoppable.
There are strong, powerful, successful people doing exactly what you may want to do but they are not doing it in the unique way only you can. For example, there are many women who want to be the next Oprah but only Oprah can do Oprah and only you can do YOU, which is a good thing. Because what, how and why you do things is special to you and may resonate with someone in only the way you can resonate with them.
I know for me I often feel like I have the same message and teach the same lessons that countless others have and teach, especially Oprah with her Masterclasses, Lifeclasses, and SuperSoul Sundays. I can’t tell you how many times she has said something I not only believe to be true but I have said it myself or written about it. But what I realized is that just because Oprah said it doesn’t mean that everyone who needs to hear it, heard it. I mean really there are over seven billion people on the planet, which means there are a whole lot of people who haven’t heard her message but if they have they are open to hearing it in many different forums from many different teachers.
Maybe someone will stumble upon this blog and read something that causes a shift for them. Of course not a whole lot of people know who the hell I am right now and that may or may not change in the near future but I still feel I have something powerful and meaningful to say and if I’m just saying it to myself, well then so be it. I sure as heck need to tell it to myself over and over again. Let life flow with ease. Let life flow with ease. Let life flow with ease.
And it’s the same for you. Whatever you want to share with the world, the world needs it to come from you, whether you want to create art, music, a socially conscious business, knitted sweaters, or write a book.
It’s time that you trust in your own brilliance and share it with the world.
You may say to that “yeah but, how do I get it all done? How do I share my gifts and talents with the world when I have children to care for and a home to manage and an endless list of responsibilities? How will I find the time and energy?”
And it’s true, we only have 24 hours in a day, which never seems like enough to get it all done especially those things we want and need to do for ourselves. Which is why it is always funny when I hear people say that we all have the same 24 hours (as Edison, Einstein, Bill Gates, Martin Luther King, da Vinci did) who have all accomplish great things through their brilliance, dedication and hard work. Whoever is saying that either is a man who isn’t the primary caregiver of small children or a woman without children. So please. To those people I say your 24 hours are not the same as my 24 hours or my readers 24 hours.
We do have a unique set of challenges as busy mamas who are often on the schedule of others and not our own. But this is just where we have to get creative, be patient with ourselves and our progress and of course not only trust in our own brilliance to figure things out but to trust in the brilliance of others whom we can ask for support from and collaborate with to help ease the overwhelm and limitations on our time.
You and I may not have the same 24 hours as those other brilliant contributors to the world but you are brilliant none the less in your own right and can damn sure figure it out one way or another, because you too are unstoppable. Believe that!
It’s time to stop with the excuses like – I’m not smart enough. I don’t have the resources or connections or enough time. I don’t know where to start. It’s all bullshit. Start where you are. Make a plan. Take it one step at a time. Ask for help and support. Do it anyway despite your fears. And of course…
Trust is your own BRILLIANCE.
…And Please, Please share it with the world!
Let me leave you with this famous quote by Marianne Williamson:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.“ – A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles
